After recently offering the top-ranked Class of 2017 recruit from the state of Wisconsin, Iowa State hopes to get the offensive line prospect down for a visit in the coming weeks.
Port Washington junior Tyler Beach has quite the offer list of Power-5 schools to date that includes Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, Oregon State, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
He says the Cyclones are trying to distinguish themselves with the new group of coaches in Ames.
“I’ve been talking to the offensive line coach (Tom Manning) and the head coach (Matt Campbell),” said Beach, who’s also a four-star recruit and 28th-ranked offensive tackle in the country. “It’s Toledo’s coaching staff and they had a lot of success there. They were there for a while. The whole coaching staff is full of great guys. That’s probably the biggest part about them.
“Out of all the schools I’ve been talking to, it’s cool because Iowa State was the only one bold enough to say they are competing for a national championship. I thought that was pretty interesting coming from them. It’s cool how confident they are coming into it.”
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Beach said he got rave reviews from Manning about what he brings to the table at his position.
“They think I’m what an offensive lineman should be – long, tall, aggressive, mean and nasty with good footwork,” Beach said. “They said I am the standard for the offensive lineman they’re looking for.”
Trips to a pair of traditional powerhouses have been scheduled, and Beach said he’s looking to add a few more stops before making a decision this spring.
“I’m going to try to come down to Iowa State if I can,” he said. “I’m still getting all of my visit dates set. I’m visiting Michigan (today and Saturday) and Notre Dame on March 19th, but that’s about all I have scheduled so far. I don’t have any favorites at this moment. I’m trying to give every school a chance. I plan on committing in late April or early May and am trying to visit as many schools as I can.
