An Ohio prep defensive tackle who recently picked up an offer from Iowa State has received some early one-on-one time with the program’s head coach.
Sidney junior Devan Rogers said head coach Matt Campbell was in touch recently with an offer in hand.
“It was during my school day, my head coach told me Iowa State was talking to him and said they were really interested,” said Rogers. “Coach Campbell told him that the whole staff had been watching my film and that they would like to offer me. Then I called Coach Campbell and we talked for about 10 to 15 minutes. I was just ecstatic and really excited.”
The 6-foot-1, 285-pound Rogers is a three-star recruit by Rivals and already has offers from the likes of Rutgers and Bowling Green.
Since pulling in the offer from the Cyclones, Rogers said he’s gotten plenty of attention from the coaching staff.
“I’ve been getting a lot of mail from them and have been talking to Coach Campbell the past few days,” Rogers said. “He just likes that I’m really humble and how I hustle on the field. He sees a lot of potential in me and said I would be a really good help to the team.
“The coaching staff really likes my technique and like what I’m doing, but just said I need to get a little better at it. Coach Campbell said they have a good staff that will help me get to the highest level where I need to be.”
Rogers said he’s done his research on the program and thinks he could potentially be a nice piece to the puzzle.
“Coach Campbell told me that they’re rebuilding,” Rogers said. “It’s not a bad thing, but I think I could be a really good help to it. I’m not a person that will let that effect my decision. I’m always out to help anybody.”
Next up for Rogers is an unofficial visit to Ames in the coming months.
“They want me to come down to one of the upcoming Junior Days at Iowa State,” Rogers said. “I haven’t looked at a date, but will for sure be there for one of them.”
In addition to his three offers, Rogers has gotten interest from Notre Dame, Purdue, Toledo and Ohio.
