Naysayers back in 1975 were convinced the new "Cyclone Stadium" would have tons of empty seats given the new stadium held a LOT more fans than Clyde Williams (50,000-ish vs 33,000?). Yet, the new stadium was pretty much full from the get-go, from what I understand.
The theory was the excitement surrounding the new fancy stadium, in and of itself, generated a new subset of ticket-buying fans...perhaps they were already ISU fans that had been sitting on the fence but just needed a nudge, perhaps a shiny new stadium, to get them to start attending games.
Fast forward to 2015. The "new" JTS holds 4,700 more fans than last year (61,500 vs 56,800). We've done a great job filling the stadium the last 3 years, but will the "build it and they will come" theory provide 4,700 new Cyclone ticket buyers?
I'd love to sell out JTS with 61,500 Cyclone fans.
