Dan Gavitt, the NCAA staffer who oversees the selection and bracketing process, has been interviewed a couple of times during the last 24 hours and mentioned the following:
1. UK is the #1 overall seed, win or lose today
2. Wisky's result today will not impact the bracket. One reason why is the B10 title game gets done shortly before the Selection Show.
3. The top 8 teams for the top two seed lines were essentially locked in prior to yesterday's games.
The only thing that could change #3 is if the Committee thinks Grandpa Ellis' injury will impact Chicken this week. After watching him last night, they might move Chicken down. If that happens, I think ND will be moved up instead of ISU.
The UConn-SMU game also gets done right before the Selection Show. If UConn steals a bid as an auto qualifier, I am thinking another AAC team, Temple, gets bumped out. Temple is very shaky to get an at-large bid anyway so making it UConn or Temple enables the Committee to not have two contingency brackets.
Wyoming's bid-stealing win last night may knock out LE and Colorado State. Boise St has been mentioned as being out but BSU shared the conference title with San Diego St (with MWC round robin scheduling) so I am thinking BSU will be ranked above CSU.
While Virginia won the ACC regular season title, Duke has a higher Conference RPI, played the tougher conference schedule and beat Virginia on the road. If Wisky gets moved up to a #1 seed (and I think they will), then Virginia gets bumped to a #2.
Regarding the top 4 seeds and their Regions, I think Lunardi has it nailed down correctly (see link) but I still think Wisky gets sent to Columbus instead of Omaha and ISU gets Omaha.
