Anyone who has played sports know that winning trumps all else. The Ohio States of the world would be very unhappy if they played all Ohio States. They want teams they can beat. It's that simple. If a conference had Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon and similar teams, they would all beat each other and have .500 records, or some teams that won in a different conference would end up at the bottom. That doesn't work.
In my view, the reason Texas isn't happy is because they are losing. Baylor, TCU, OU and OSU have risen above them. In some cases KSU and soon ISU. So they belly ache about the conference. If they were winning championships, the Big 12 would be wonderful.
Bottomline, anyone who thinks the "top" teams want to group up is crazy. Just not reality. It's all about winning.
(in reality, maybe they aren't unhappy, just the fans.)
