There hasn't been much discussion of the Big XII news. We got no site information on it, but a little checking reveals that there was some significant happenings.
More likely, they would divide the divisions with some semblance of balance. Division 1 - OU, OSU, ISU, WVU, Tech Division 2 - Texas, TCU, KState, KU, Baylor.
We would still be positioned to expand easier and, assuming we want to expand to 12 and can't attract any big names (again, just an assumption), I think I would prefer Memphis (assuming Fed Ex drops a lot of money into the Conference) and Houston (I know, not going to happen). That way you could take the first Division Model and Move WVU into the Big 8 Division and Houston and Memphis into the SWCC Division.
In truth, I really hope this can be the impetus for some stability, whatever it is. Now, if Boren and Texas can keep quiet the rest of the summer, we might actually talk about football.
- First, in minor move, but one designed to make OU feel good, Baker Mayfield had his lost year of eligibility restored. Probably a PR necessity, as the the Conference was getting roasted over the original denial.
- Second, we are going to have a Conference Championship game. That is significantl financially, as it will add an estimated 3 million dollars per team to the revenue stream, which leads to;
- Third, they announced that the revenue was increased to $30,000,000 per team for Tier 1 and 2. Tier 3 rights were not announced, as they are ADDITIONAL revenues per team, topped by the $15,000,000 Longhorn Network for Texas.
- No details on whether the Conference will be divided into divisions to determine the Championship game participants or just continue the round robin and the top two records would play in the game.
- Expansion is still on the table, but not imminent. We are not disadvantaged financially (yet) and certainly not compared to the ACC or PAC 12.
