I know it does not matter much about the bowl picture, but it always looks good to see Iowa State finish in the top 25 of anything and can only help in recruiting.
We have two tough games ahead of us (neither will be easy, especially k. state).....but assuming we win both...to climb back into the CFP we need some of these scenarios to take place.
Based on last College Football Playoff Poll............
We (Iowa State) are @ #28 according to their point system
#27 iowa plays both Purdue and nebraska (Probably beat Purdue @ home, flip of the coin with fading nebraska although maybe the 66 yard offense hawks show up the last two games.)
#26 Virginia Tech looks safe with Pitt and UVA.
#25 Boise State has two tough games in Fresno State and Wyoming. Probably lose one of two. Out of CFP.
#24 Michigan probably loses at Wisconsin and home against Ohio State....although I will be rooting for them to beat Ohio State. Probability....fall out of CFP.
#23 Northwestern has home against Minnesota and @ Illinois. Wished we had these games left. Minnesota good nip Northwestern since they need it for a bowl bid...but odds go with 2 wins for the wildcats.
#22 Stanford has Cal and Notre Dame. Notre Dame did take care of USC...and should take care of Stanford unless the Irish have a Miami game. Still odds.... Stanford loses.
#21 Memphis plays SMU and ECU. SMU is only obstacle. Tough game, but SMU loses.... but go Mustangs.
#20 LSU plays Tennessee (please)....but could stumble against Texas A$M
#19 N.C. State has Wake Forest and North Carolina. Wake up Forest. Looks like 2 wins.
#18 Washington has both Utah and Washington State. Probably win Utah in squeaker and lose to their instate rival. We could jump them in the CFP (assuming again we win our last 2)
#17 Michigan State plays Maryland and Rutgers. (Geesh...we could only wish for a big ten schedule.)
#16 Mississippi State @ Arkansas and rival game against Mississippi @ home. Probably safe to stay in polls.
#15 Anybody above this number looks safe in the CFP top 25 even with a loss or 2.
I see about 5 spots (teams) we could jump over (fairly good odds)..... where teams probably lose at least one game leaving us a spot on the top 25 CFP for the final pre bowl ranking with two final wins.
