Other than BYU and UConn, none of the schools being considered by the Big 12 are superior to Iowa State in athletics or fan support.
Seems to me that anyone other than those two is a bet on potential to secure a media market. Cincinnati has good basketball and pretty good football, but they're a commuter school with a small following. Even in a major conference, Ohio State would have a bigger advantage over them in Ohio than Iowa has over ISU in the Cyclone State.
Houston is just the latest SWC leftover having some success in football. TCU keeping Patterson is more or less what got them into the Big 12. Bringing in Houston is just strengthening part of the footprint rather than truly expanding. If we go to 14, we might as well bring along SMU and Rice like the good old days, then call up Arkansas and Texas A&M about 16. The only way we should be cool with Houston is if Baylor is expelled.
