Oakland > Ames > Cedar Rapids > Ames
In the next few years we could be seeing a lot of turnover among Big 12 head football coaches.
  • Charlie Strong at Texas is on the hot seat and will be fired after we beat them next week. :)
  • Bill Snyder at Kansas State can't have many years left in him.
  • Baylor will get a new coach unless they retain their interim coach.
  • Dana Holgorsen's seat at West Virginia seems to be warm nearly every year.
  • Bobby Stoops has not performed up to Oklahoma fan's lofty expectations. He has performed good enough to stick around for 17 years for a patient administration. But that's a long time and OU may want to refresh the team if he slips up. This year's team does not look to be up to Oklahoma standards despite a lot of preseason hype. I would not be surprised to see him gone in a few years.
  • Chris Kingsbury is no pirate. Texas Tech is looking more like one of the bottom feeders in the league than the consistent winners that they were under Mike Leach. If Iowa State passes them up, I give him no more than 3 years.
  • Mike Gundy and T. Boone Pickens aren't on the best of terms. Oklahoma State hasn't been playing like they have in recent years. If that is a trend, I expect they will be quick to make a change.
  • Gary Patterson at TCU is 56 years old and has been at TCU for 16 years. He's probably going to finish his career at TCU, so he's probably there for at least a half dozen years. But you can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel unless he plans on being a Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Bill Snyder type that just can't quit.
  • The Kansas coach is in his second year. I didn't even know his name I Googled it. He will be okay until hope of improvement is gone. He had his team playing well today but much like Iowa State, couldn't seal the deal.
So that is a list of all of the coaches for the other 9 teams in the league. At least 5 of the 9 have seats that are getting warm. Two more are getting up there in age and a third is an aging interim coach. If any of them finish at or near the top of the conference, they may buy themselves a little more time. But those whose teams under-perform, could be gone fairly quickly. In 6 years Matt Campbell could be the elder statesmen if he sticks around.
