Fourteen members of the Iowa State football team have been named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Conference teams, announced today by the Big 12 Conference.

Eleven Cyclones earned first team honors, including senior linebacker Kane Seeley, who made a league all-academic team for the fourth time. Senior defensive end Mitchell Meyers, a first team selection, is now a three-time recipient of academic honors, and senior Mitchell Harger earned first team honors for the second year in a row.

Senior Brian Seda (OL) and junior Trever Ryen (WR) also received first team recognition, along with sophomores Cole Anderson (TE), Spencer Benton (DE), Carson Epps (WR) and Mike Warren (RB). Two freshmen Quinn Sonntag (LS) and Julian Good-Jones (OL) also garnered first-team kudos.

Three Cyclones received second-team honors in senior defensive lineman Breion Creer, senior linebacker Anthony Lazard and sophomore Jamaal Richardson.

In order to be awarded with first-team honors, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher, while also participating in 60 percent of the games. Second-team honors are awarded to the student-athletes who maintained a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and met all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
