Reading the Flint basketball article and comments made me think about moments in my Cyclone basketball fan history that were soooo close.
1. What if Coach Maury John was not stricken with cancer in his 3rd season at Iowa State? Hired away from Drake after a final four team there, followed by two elite 8 teams.
2. What if Johnny could have landed Glen Rice? If I remember the years correctly, we could have had a team with Stevens, Grayer, Rice & Hornacek.
3. What if we didn't have to play Michigan State on a quasi home court in 2000? Convinced we had a National Championship team with any different path to the Final Four.
4. What if Chris Babb does not sprain his ankle in the Kentucky game in NCAA tournament?
5. What if Georges does not break his foot in the NCAA tournament?
30 plus years as a season ticket holder, with many great memories. Proud of many successes, but wish we had a national championship banner hanging from the rafters. Several instances above when we had the potential to make that happen.
