January 22 is on average the coldest day of the year in Ames. For me it's a time to rejoice as the climate will trend toward warmer temperatures as we make our way out of winter. I feel we have escaped the worst of it this year with relatively mild temperatures so far this season. I'm sure we will be punished before it's over, but with each passing day, the odds are in our favor for warmer temps.
