An unofficial visit to Iowa State last week became a fruitful one for an Arkansas high school offensive lineman, as his visit was capped off with an offer from head coach Matt Campbell.

The Cyclones’ offer is the first Power-5 one for Nashville High School junior Kirby Adcock, who also has FBS ones from Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.

The I-State staff certainly made the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Adcock feel welcome, starting with assistant coach Alex Golesh’s front door welcome.

“The visit went great,” said Adcock. “I came in and Coach Golesh met me at the door. From there I started meeting all the coaches. It was really great. I watched them practice and after practice I met with Coach (Tom) Manning and spoke with him for a while. He’s a great coach. I watched his meeting with the offensive linemen before practice and was really impressed by it. I also talked to Coach Campbell and I was really impressed by him. He informed me that I had an offer there.”

Adcock said he got some valuable feedback as to why he is such an appealing recruit for ISU.

“The coaches said they like to recruit people who work hard and people who on film when they have a bad play they like to see what they do after a bad play,” Adcock said. “They had called my coach and people back in hometown and they said I had good character.”

Since he had yet to visit I-State, Adcock said he came away surprised with what the program has to offer under first-year head coach Campbell.

“The football facilities are great at Iowa State,” he said. “The academics were nice. I talked to the academic coordinator and it went pretty well. They talked to me about their graduation rates and how they help plan out your whole schedule for you throughout college.

“I really didn’t know much about Iowa State. I had looked them up and saw their record was 3-9, so I didn’t know what to think. When I got there and met the new coaches, it got me excited about the offer. The facilities were nicer than expected. It’s really just an interesting, great place.”

The Class of 2017 recruit said he’s looking forward to seeing Cyclone coaches at his school during spring evaluations and is planning on return trips to Ames in the near future.

“They talked about coming down to see me and me coming up in the summer for an overnight visit and hanging with one of the football players,” Adcock said. “I’ll also be planning an official visit up to Iowa State.”

Adcock reigns from Nashville, Arkansas, which is located in southwest Arkansas and four hours from Fayetteville and 2 ½ hours from Little Rock. Adcock’s team won the Class 4A state championship last fall, where it knocked off recent ISU signee Dylan Soehner’s Prairie Grove squad.
