I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos lately, because let's face it, there's not much on TV anymore. I found this channel called My Self Reliance where a guy built a cabin on his own in a remote part of Canada near Algonquin Park north of Toronto. He built this thing using all primitive hand tools with the exception of a chain saw sawmill to mill his own lumber. (The lumber he mills is really thick) But he uses axes and saws to cut down trees (I've never seen him use the chain saw for that).
His creativity is out of this world, I think, because he didn't stop at the cabin. He also built an outdoor kitchen, complete with a clay oven, to cook during summer when cooking indoors would be too hot, he built a different building he uses as a sauna and he's got plans to build a workshop, a greenhouse and other buildings. And he built a covering for his firewood and another building he covered in bark as sort of storage for tools and scrap.
He's already added onto his cabin, building a storage room on the back and a screened-in porch on the side. He also does a lot of cooking on his shows. It's just him and his golden retriever for the most part, but he does have a wife and two grown daughters, but they only show up occasionally. He does very little talking in his early videos, but in later ones, he begins explaining what he's doing and planning. I don't like those videos as well.
I don't know, I just find this fascinating.
