George Raveling’s first genius move when he went to USC from EIU was to not renew Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble’s scholarships.
Apparently he couldn’t even remember their names when talking to them. He also notified players by letter that their scholarships weren’t being renewed. Never talked to them about it.
Before he died, Gathers was leading the country in both points and rebounds per game.
Amazing that Raveling put together a roster loaded with future NBA players at EIU. Although they sucked under his coaching.
