How in the hell did we manage to let the taliban stay strong enough over the past 20 years to retake the country in about 5 minutes since we left? Seriously, what is going on? I am not one to want the US to be involved in every conflict throughout the world, but clearly something is wrong when we spent billions and billions (maybe trillions) of dollars and thousands of lives fighting, nation-building, etc. over the course of 20 years and it goes to shit in such a short time. I think our government leaders have failed spectacularly, including politicians and military top brass. This is not partisan one way or another either, we have been there for multiple republican and democratic presidents, and apparently they are all equally incompetent (not exactly surprising). Trump's plan to get out was obviously a mess, and Biden proceeded with this horrible plan. Which is somewhat amazing, considering almost everything else he has done has been a direct opposite of what Trump wanted to do.
I feel terrible for the thousands of U.S. service men and women who are veterans of the Afghan wars the last 20 years that have to be thinking "what the f*** ?"
