Just came from a wedding on Omaha (at the LOVELY Design Center!!). Covid protocols all around. Masks required, masks offered, etc... But no distancing requirement is my understanding in Omaha? 200 of us mingle in the anteroom but now a few less masks because we're drinking champagne. We head into the wedding room and as I said apparently no distance requirements. Wedding party, who we've all been mingling with, all come down the aisle and nobody in masks. It was a lovely ceremony albeit a tad TOO "new age" for me... During the ceremony the "schtick" was for the entire room to bless the rings so they passed the rings around and 200 people touched them, fondled them then passed them along. Luckily we had masks on so we couldn't exhale on them!
After ceremony we went back to the anteroom where the bar was OPEN! And with free drinks came no masks (and zero distancing) for basically anyone crammed into the anteroom drinking FREE hooch courtesy of some big wig at Union Pacific.
Now that everyone was drinking and nobody had masks anywhere to be seen, 200 of us sat down, had a PROPER wedding meal then we all started table drifting and hugging and drinking and reconnecting and dancing, etc... GREAT fun. GREAT, GREAT fun...
At the end, we put our masks on to walk the 20 feet (took me 60 feet - did I mention OPEN bar) to the front door where I - in VERY poor judgement - drove to the hotel. I've been working HARD on not doing that. Sometimes ya backslide... Don't judge me, or actually DO judge me since I would probably judge YOU for drunk driving. Just don't hold it against me.
Commentary - people are CRAVING connection and this brief return to normalcy - me being drunk and wobbling down streets, ogling wedding party cleavage, dancing like I have epilepsy, drunk talking to people in suits - was so friggin' BEAUTIFUL I can't describe. I'm a law abider and a rule follower and always will be but I am NOT passionate about keeping up the optics of "covid lockdown". It's a farce.
Covid is real, people are dying, masks are required in most places, and I love wedding boobage. I can't emphasize enough the importance of wedding boobies since it/they represent(s) rebirth, renewal and spring.
