One of the top safeties in the country for the Class of 2018 recently picked up an offer from Iowa State and is looking into taking an official visit to Ames in the coming months.
Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central standout junior Dallas Craddieth, who is the 26th player nationally at his position and the eighth-ranked overall player in the state for 2018, said he received the offer over the phone from defensive coordinator and safeties coach Jon Heacock.
“He direct-messaged me on Twitter and asked me to call him,” said Craddieth. “We talked for a little bit and he asked me about my mom, who I was living with and stuff like that. He told me they’re starting to do some great things at Iowa State, offered me and told me the coaching staff likes the way I play.”
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect is coveted for his versatility by the ISU defensive staff.
“(Coach Heacock) feels like I can play either the safety or corner positions,” Craddieth said. “He said they run nickel and we run nickel at my high school. He feels like I can play in the box or move around a lot and play various positions.”
Cornerbacks coach D.K. McDonald has also been in touch with Craddieth.
“He recruits my area,” Craddieth said. “I talked to all the coaches except for the head coach. I really like how they’ve wanted to talk to me on the phone so much, so that I’ve gotten to know them. They’re trying to build a relationship and follow me in my recruitment.”
ISU’s staff would next like to host Craddieth over the winter months for a Junior Day.
“They want me to come up for one of the basketball games and we’ll tour the facilities while I’m there,” he said. “I haven’t decided which game, but I’ll be up there for one of them.”
In addition to his Cyclone offer, Craddieth claims ones from Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Syracuse and Memphis.
“I haven’t really had much chance to look at all my schools, so I’m pretty open to everyone,” he said.
