In doing the Cygarin Ratings and observing that the top four teams in the Big-12 play each other at the end of the season, an observation popped out at me......
The four top Big-12 teams all play each other. With home field advantage factored in, that means that all four teams face a power rating equivalent opponent or 86 or higher.
That equates to 12 games that will occur where one team will face a top-15 equivalent opponent.
So far, only one of those games have been played...TCU lost at Oklahoma State.
To compare.....
The top four Big-10 teams face only three top-15 equivalent opponents....
Ohio State plays @ Michigan
Michigan plays @ Ohio State
Iowa played @ Wisconsin.
What is stunning is that Wisconsin is the 5th team.....and they do not have a top-15 equivalent game on their entire schedule. Iowa at home is their highest rated opponent, and that about a 25th ranked equivalent.
How do you think that is all going impact the Playoff Selection Committee?
Does anybody want to calculate the odds than any of the Big-12 teams can run the gauntlet undefeated? Of course, TCU and Oklahoma are already out.
And of course, Ohio State and Iowa are still in.
