Got on the treadmill today, remote control turned on the TV but not the DirecTV receiver. It's the remote that came with the DirecTV. Worked fine before. It just wasn't communicating with the receiver. I figured it was the batteries, so I went upstairs and installed new ones, two AA. Still didn't work. Rebooted the receiver. Nope. So I called the toll-free DTV number and after jumping through the automated hoops and spending 10 minutes, I was connected with a young woman who spoke decent English. We went through the trouble-shooting steps and solved the problem.

I had put one of the batteries in backward.

I have been dealing with batteries since the early 1950s when I used to take the big dry cells out of the wall-mounted crank phone on the farm for use in Cub Scout projects. I hold an Advanced Class amateur radio license. I put a AA battery in backward.

That's all. That's enough.
