I see a few threads lamenting this coach or that coach would be bad because they would be gone in 5 years. I would argue that is our history in our 2 major sports.

We have had 1 MBB coach and 1 fb coach with long tenures. Both were just average even if you give them a pass for their first year or 5 in DMac's case.

Let me pose this to you ? Would you be happy if the next coach, over 5 years, wins 57% of his games, gets us to 2 NCAA tournaments and 1 NIT, and has an overall losing record on the conference? Historically, that would not be a bad stretch.

I think we should worry less about whether he will leave us after 5 years and more about what can he give us in the 5 years. I'll take Fred's 5 or Floyd's 4 to Johnny Orr's or Dan Mac's dozen.

If Fred wasn't going to stay for the duration, no one is. IMO, of course.
