A Class of 2018 four-star defender has multiple Power-5 offers under his belt, including one from Iowa State, and says he would like to take an unofficial visit at some point.
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage standout Andrew Chatfield is hearing from the Cyclones, who would like to get him on campus.
“I haven’t done much research since I’ve been really focused with my team, doing my homework and working out. I heard Iowa State is a great school and I’m going to check it out. I also like the fact it’s in the Big 12. They’ve been inviting me to their home games and want me to check out their campus, but I’ll probably have to go see them over the summer because of the distance.”
The 6-foot-1, 214-pound Chatfield is ranked as eighth outside linebacker nationally, 31st overall in the state of Florida and 170th nationally regardless of position.
In addition to the one he has from I-State, Chatfield has Power-5 offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He said he’s also receiving heavy interest from Florida State, North Carolina and Louisville.
The junior said he likes what he’s heard from Cyclone coaches about what his future role would be in their defense.
“They were talking about how I could be a great speed-end rusher, doing the same things I already do with my high school program,” Chatfield said. “I love running around the field and it would be great playing that position in college. I love going at defensive end, outside linebacker and running around the field.”
Chatfield said it’s still too early for any favorites.
“I don’t have a list of who would be my first or second,” he said. “I’m waiting until I can start taking visits to see how the schools are.”
