A rangy high school defender from Michigan will take his second official visit of the recruiting process this weekend to Iowa State, which has showed plenty of interest since head coach Matt Campbell came on board last month.

Canton senior Jalen Cochran, a three-star defensive end that’s ranked 17th in his state for the Class of 2016 and 33rd nationally at his position, says he’s been looking forward to the visit for several weeks.

“I’m looking forward to having dinner with Coach Campbell and checking out everything at Iowa State,” said Cochran. “I’m excited to see what it’s like because I haven’t really been there or seen much of it. This will be my second official visit, so I’m pretty excited to fly out there.

“Throughout my whole recruiting process, they’ve been telling me I’m their number one guy and are still telling me that. They’re excited to get me down there. I’m excited to see all of them again, because I haven’t seen them since they left Toledo. It’s going to be me and my mom going down there.”

ISU was in-home with Cochran last month and will send linebackers coach Tyson Veidt to the recruit’s school today to visit with Canton head coach Tim Baechler.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Cochran figures to play all over the field for the Cyclones.

“The position in their scheme is called ‘Leo’ and it’s kind of like a hybrid linebacker,” he said. “I’ll be playing down and playing up, in coverage and rushing the passer.”

Heading into his I-State visit, Cochran said it’s down to two schools…the Cyclones and Miami (Ohio). He says at least two other schools have been in contact, but have yet to offer or want to schedule official visits.

“I might go to Arizona, but it’s not set in stone yet,” Cochran said. “As of right now it’s just Iowa State (for visits). Michigan State has been talking to me on and off, so I could possibly visit there. At this point I’d be choosing between Iowa State and Miami (Ohio).”
