First, Randy has us going 5-7...which I think is probably fair and a touch optimistic. (I originally thought he had us going 4-8 until I was kindly corrected).
The season likely won't play out the way he thinks it will, though I think his end record is a reasonable expectation at this point.
He also states that CJ Beathard will be the 2nd best QB we face after Baker Mayfield.

Later in the article, he states that Mason Rudolph is in the same class as Baker Mayfield, Seth Russell and perhaps Patrick Mahomes. To be fair, I think that lists the 4 best QBs we know we'll see....pushing Beathard to 5th at best. Throw in that there are others like Shane Buechele at Texas, Jesse Ertz at KState and Potter at SJSU that may prove significant threats as well, and I'm not even sure Beathard would be in the top half of QBs Iowa State will face this season.
That is saying a lot, because I think Beathard is good. I just got the feeling Randy was trolling for his Hawk friends at the Rag when he just stated Beathard is at #2 on our opponent QB list. He probably wouldn't even sit 2nd string at some of the Big 12 schools we face.
