I'm involved in a discussion on the Hawkeye board involving revenues. The Hawkeye posted some much greater ticket revenue numbers for Iowa football than Iowa State. So I finally looked at the latest numbers and found the budgeted revenue for 2022 for both schools. You can't really compare line-item by line-item because they account for things differently. I don't think you can clearly determine ticket revenue as some of it, particularly suites and premium tickets may be treated differently and appear on a different line item. For example, Iowa has a separate line-item for "Foundation Premium Seat Revenue". Iowa State does not. But Iowa State's "Foundation Support" number is $10.8 million greater than that same line-item for Iowa. Below is something I posted on their board:
I just took a look at the 2022 budgeted athletic revenue for both schools. Iowa revenues are expected to be $18.4 million more than Iowa State. We know that the Big Ten conference distributions are higher than the Big 12 distributions. The difference is $14.9 million.
What surprises me is if you look at the difference in revenue without the conference distributions, Iowa's athletic revenue is only $3.5 million greater than Iowa State. I would have expected it to be much bigger than that.
Back to your ticket revenue claims. I notice Iowa separates out "Foundation Support" ($12M) and "Foundation Premium Seat Revenue" ($11.3M). Iowa State only has a "Foundation Support" ($22.8M) line item. I suspect some of the premium seat revenue for Iowa State is not broken out and is hidden under the Foundation Support line-item in the Iowa State budget. The two line-items for Iowa total $23.3M, compared to $22.8 for Iowa State. So the difference is likely not as great as you thought.
