Having a current NFL player and former Iowa State standout to confide in has helped a Class of 2017 defensive prospect get more acquainted with the program.

Clearwater outside linebacker Tramar Reece currently has offers from I-State and Bowling Green. Cyclone fans may remember that Clearwater High School is the same program that sent Jeremiah George to Ames, and then on to the professional ranks.

“I have talked to Jeremiah George a little bit and like what I’ve heard so far,” said Reece. “He is an alumnus of my high school and comes back here to talk to us and lift with us every now and then. He’s close to our football program. It’s nice having someone who’s been where we are and is where we want to be as a role model.”

ISU became Reece’s first offer of any kind on March 3rd when assistant coach Tyson Veidt made contact with the junior’s head coach.

“After hearing the news, I got in touch with Coach Veidt,” Reece said. “We talked about my grades, how things are going and how I’m doing. We talked a little bit about the team, what defense they run and where I fit into that defense. We were talking about (me playing a) rushing linebacker off the right side, getting after the quarterback. They like my versatility, my ability to get off the ball quickly and get into the backfield quickly.”

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound Reece said he plans to call Cyclone defensive line coach Eli Rasheed in the near future and anticipates seeing some coaches down at his school during spring evaluations.

Reece said he plans to take a visit to Ames soon.

“I’m trying to come up in the spring or summer, and am looking forward to taking an official visit there in the fall,” he said.

In addition to his two offers, Reece is hearing from Indiana, Florida, Missouri, Florida Atlantic, South Florida and Central Florida.
