We needed some heroics by Steele Jantz to get past UNI a few years ago with a team that went to a bowl. Before the 23-3 win over Iowa in 2005 we struggled mightily with Illinois State, and that was one of Mac's best teams. One of Washington State's four losses last year was to Portland State, and the Cougars lost again yesterday to Eastern Washington. In 2010 Virginia Tech lost to a James Madison team that finished 6-5 and still rolled through the ACC undefeated.

This year's Cyclones aren't very good. We knew that before yesterday and we know it even better today. That said, it's a long season. We've seen big turnarounds from week one to week two many times, and the Iowa game is almost always competitive these days even when we're terrible. TCU struggled big time yesterday with South Dakota State. San Jose State is terrible.

If what occurred yesterday is indicative of the Cyclone team we see all season we'll go 0-12, Matt Campbell will be gone after next year, and the next coach will come in with a couple really nice recruiting classes to coach up. That's a possibility, but it's just as likely that we improve and pick up a few wins.

TL,DR Version: We can be concerned, but one game isn't a large enough sample size to determine much about this season or coaching staff.
